In the Darkroom of Shah-Nameh
Gallery and Music Workshop
Light of Music is proud to present a vibrant up and coming
artist, Sama Soltani, and her exciting collection of artwork
inspired by Ferdowsi’s Shah-Nameh. This exceptional
collection brings to life stories from the Shah-Nameh
giving you the wonderful opportunity to walk into these
epic stories. For more information about Sama and her

There will also be a music workshop demonstrating several
traditional Iranian instruments such as santoor, tar, setar,
tambour, daf to name a few. You will have the unique
opportunity to have a go at playing these instruments and
to ask our instructors any questions you may have about the
instruments and Iranian music in general.

The Spring Equinox performance has a happy theme and is in two parts. The first half of the concert is Tasnif music based on the poetry of our famous poets such as Hafiz and Sa'di and the second half is familiar folk music such as Kurdish, Gilaki, Azeri and Lori, celebrating the season of spring. This is a joyous concert in celebration of Norooz.

Rumi’s Spiritual Odyssey, was an inspiring and beautiful
performance of Mowlana Jalaledin Balkhi’s (Rumi) Journey
through life in his own words from Divan-e Shams. It was
recited both in Persian and English and was accompanied
by vocalists and Light of Music Persian Chamber Orchestra.
The event was performed in London (SOAS & Artsdepot),
Cambridge and Southampton. The DVD for this event is

Intoxication of Hafez was performed at Emmanuel
College, Cambridge, Southampton and School of
Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), London. The
concert was a fusion of music and poetry and of Eastern
and Western music. This gave our audience a unique
opportunity to have a deep insight of Hafez and his
poetry, as well as listen to some innovative Western

Ode to Peace is Light of Music’s tribute to worldwide peace
and friendship. All profits of this concert will be donated
to Cancer Research UK.
This concert features orchestral works by four different
composers from west to east. The evening begins with
Rossini’s truly classical overture to The Barber of Seville,
followed by Tchaikovsky’s wonderful Swan Lake Suite
and Debussy’s colourful prelude inspired by the poem
L’après-midi d’un faune by Stéphane Mallarmé.
For the second half of this evening exciting young soprano
Honey Rouhani and violinist Irmina Trynkos join Babak
Kazemi and Light of Music Symphony Orchestra, which takes
you to a new world where east and west merge together in
world premiere of Babak’s violin concertino and his orchestral
songs based on poems from remarkable Persian poets:
Hafez and Rumi.
In between the songs, reciting of Persian poems
accompanied by acclaimed Persian period-instruments
adds fresh, vibrant colours to this unmissable concert.
